Can Cesar Chavez Cope with Success? May 22, 1976 New Republic Cover

“Cesar Chavez, whose beatific smile, hunger strikes, and friendship with Bobby Kennedy made him a culture hero of the late ’60s, is again flexing his political muscles in California—a state in which Mexican-Americans are the largest minority and where the governor sought and got his endorsement in the last election.”
