Wikipedia: Professor of Bible, Hebrew Union College Harry Orlinsky:
Harry M. Orlinsky (14 March 1908 – 21 March 1992) was the editor-in-chief of the New Jewish Publication Society (NJPS) translation of the Torah (1962).
Orlinsky helped to keep the committee on track in using the older Masoretic text rather than the easier to translate, Septuagint, which is a Greek translation. Harrelson recalls Orlinsky’s constant reminder, “We’re translating Hebrew Scriptures. We’re not translating from the Greek Hebrew Scriptures.”

“Septuagint, from the Latin word meaning seventy, is a translation of the Hebrew Bible and some related texts into Koine Greek. Seventy refers to the legendary seventy Jewish scholars who solely translated the Five Books of Moses as early as the 3rd century BCE.” –Wikipedia
